WesMar Goat Farm is a wonderful place to take young scouts. The farm raises Che'v re goats for milk, cheese and soap production. The best time to go to the farm is around March & April. The co-owners West Constantine and his wife Marguerite bring a great learning experience for scouts of any age. Marguerite Constantine does most of the tour with the children. If the trip is scheduled during the spring time of March & April, the children get to play with the little kids (baby goats). While the children play with the kids she gives them some history and insight to how they are raised. After a while the children get to go and pet some of the larger goats. During the activities the children love it when they get to hand feed peanuts to the mother goats. She will take them into the milking room. The scouts will get hands on experience milking the mother goats. If they are brave they can drink it warm. It's yummy!! After the milking lesson they will be brought into the pasteurization and curing rooms. They will learn how the milk and cheese is processed. When the tour is over they finish with a little picnic taste testing of all the cheeses and milk. Then Mrs. Marguerite always makes them her special batch of homemade chocolate goat milk ice cream. The children think the ice cream is absolutely delicious. You must schedule your event in advance. They are very busy and are only available for tours on Sunday afternoons. It is limited to 20 girls per tour. The fee is $6.00 per child. There is no charge for the adult chaperone's who attend. You must put this event on your schedule and experience the enjoyment your scouts will have with hands on learning. Tell them Angell sent you!
